Try it Out
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program is a short, beginner-friendly experience designed for those who want to try scuba diving without committing to a full certification course. Ideal for curious individuals aged 10 and older, the program typically lasts a few hours and provides a safe, supervised introduction to the underwater world.
The experience generally consists of three main parts:
- Knowledge Development: A brief orientation where you learn basic safety guidelines, equipment usage, and underwater hand signals.
- Confined Water Practice: You’ll head to a swimming pool or pool-like environment to practice breathing through a regulator, equalizing your ears, and mastering key skills like clearing water from your mask.
- Optional Open Water Dive: Under the direct supervision of a PADI Scuba Instructor, you may take a guided tour to a maximum depth of 12 metres (40 feet) to experience weightlessness and observe marine life.
While not a certification, the DSD is a “try-dive” that can often be credited toward a PADI Open Water Diver course if you decide to pursue the sport further within 12 months.
