New Heights in Howe Sound: Meet “Sounder”
Exploring the underwater wonders of Howe Sound just got a lot smoother. PNW Expeditions has officially launched its newest addition to the fleet: a custom-modified 30-foot vessel named Sounder.
The launch follows four months of intensive retrofit work led by owner Victor Malhame, a seasoned PADI instructor and technical diver. Malhame’s vision was to create a vessel specifically tailored for the rugged conditions of the Pacific Northwest while ensuring maximum comfort for adventurers.
The standout feature of the Sounder is its innovative diver elevator at the stern. This electric lift eliminates the need for exhausting ladder climbs, allowing divers and snorkelers to exit the water effortlessly while fully geared up.
Beyond the lift, the boat is designed for year-round exploration:
- All-Weather Comfort: A fully enclosed, heated cabin and hot-water shower help guests warm up between dives.
- Performance: Built with a deep-V hull and twin inboard engines, it offers a stable ride even when the Sound gets choppy.
- Practical Amenities: Onboard features include a marine toilet, ample gear storage, and a covered flybridge for wildlife spotting.
Now operating out of Horseshoe Bay, Sounder is already making waves with recent sightings of orcas and dolphins during its inaugural charters. Whether you are a technical diver or a casual snorkeler, the Sounder promises a premier “valet-style” experience in the heart of British Columbia’s marine wilderness.
